If ever there was a time when we think about our bodies it was surely now; in the midst of Summer. We have tried our hand at various diets and whether we have succeeded or failed we will now be in a position where we probably don’t really care, because, after all, Summer is here. And in the UK, what a splendid Summer we are having! Clear skies have been with us for weeks and the mercury is heading upward daily. Perfect for a Summer staycation.
Here at lifetrainme we like to head to West Wales where we spend time on the beautiful beaches. During this wonderful weather we really enjoy getting out on the kayak and trying our hand at fishing. Mackerel are usually easy enough to catch at this time of year. They are plentiful and highly nutritious and can be simply grilled on the BBQ. What better way to enjoy this delicious fish?
Our weight loss goals needn’t be forgotten just because we are busy enjoying ourselves. When we are on holiday it seems like. are bombarded by all the lovely smells and sights of delicious foods and the gym is far from our minds. Just because eating is one of our greatest pleasures and exercise seems like a chore, doesn’t mean that we need to succumb to an unhealthier regime for the summer!
During the warmer weather it is easier to eat cooling salads and raw vegetables. They are really low in calories when we remember to hold the unnecessary dressings. A simple squeeze of lemon juice is often enough to wake up taste, especially if you throw on a few fresh herbs too. It’s easy to replace more caloric foods on your plate with salad and greens in the Summer; so work with the seasons and go with the flow. In our house we like to lightly grill our veggies on the BBQ with some halloumi and then add some chopped greens for a big salad. Some of us eat meat and some of us don’t. Eating simply allows us to all eat what we prefer and we don’t need to cook loads of dishes in order to cater for everyone.
Now, whilst I am on the subject of holidaying did you realise that just upping the amount you walk every day can have an impact on your weight long term? Even just walking for 30 minutes a day can increase your overall weight loss on a monthly basis. That’s worth it, wouldn’t you agree?
When you start incorporating activities into your day it all makes for significant change. We like to kayak and according to the American Council on Exercise, a 125-lb. person burns 283 calories per hour of kayaking while a 150-lb. person burns 340, a 175-lb. person burns 397 calories and a 200-lb. person burns 454 calories. That’s pretty significant; especially when you have a few days over the month with some kind of extra activity.
I like to think that I can keep trim and healthy by incorporating a few daily activities that I really enjoy. I always like to try out something new and this year I am definitely looking at more water sports, no doubt encouraged by the great weather.
What are you going to do new this season? How will you lose weight and keep trim by doing the things you love?
